Apparently (Al Sheppard) by Uncle Dropsi and Sunny

From the Toronto Bike Messenger Association’s (TOBMA) event description:

On August 31, 2009 my friend Darcy Allan “Al” Sheppard was murdered by the former Ontario Attorney General and Aboriginal Affairs Minister, Michael Bryant. The incident started when Bryant struck Allan with his vehicle and drove away. Allan caught up to Bryant at a red light and appeared to be demanding an explanation for Bryant’s actions. Bryant then ran Allan over and dragged him over 100 meters to his death, and left him in the street to die.Witnesses said that the motorist repeatedly mounted the sidewalk and drove near lampposts in what seemed to be an attempt to brush off the man hanging onto the side.

The attempt was all too successful.

Allan fathered two children in Ontario and two children in Alberta.

He has many friends and family that will not forget.*

*Taken from a spoke card created by Aryeh Smith shortly after Al’s death.

While Michael Bryant’s charges have been officially withdrawn, there are still many who consider him at fault for the death of our friend and colleague.

Those who knew Al knew him to be a generous and loving individual, always with a smile and a joke upon greeting him. He is still greatly missed by the courier community in Toronto and by those who knew him well, or even just a little.

On Sunday August 28, 2011 please join us in remembering our friend, son, brother, father and fellow courier.

There will be a ghost bike ceremony at 1pm followed by a group memorial ride from the site of his death, just east of Avenue Road on the south side of Bloor Street. After the ride we will have a moment of silence at Queen’s Park followed by a group sharing session.

Please invite everyone you know to join us for this day of remembrance.
